Producers from Sony Interactive Entertainment Studio Japan and From Software say they are working on new projects, but they may not be a sequel to Bloodborne.
In a new article, members of the team at From Software, who developed the PlayStation 4 exclusive hit Bloodborne, have said they are hard at work on more games for 2017; however, that may not include a sequel to Bloodborne.
In an interview with 4Gamer, a group of Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio producers sat down for a traditional annual interview to provide an outlook for the following year. The producers at From Software and Studio Japan working on Bloodborne stayed quiet on details, but From Software Producer Teruyuki Toriyama said the studio is working hard on “ambitious titles” and concepts for new games simultaneously. Masaaki Yamagiwa, who served as a producer on Bloodborne (on Sony’s Studio Japan side), said he has continued working on a project ever since Bloodbornelaunched last April. Yamagiwa said he hopes that project will release next year in 2017.
Dualshockers, who translated the Japanese interview to English, made note that while all this talk could refer to a sequel to Bloodborne, the language used in no way implies that Toriyama and Yamagiwa are talking about another game in the Bloodborne franchise. This one (or multiple) projects could be something else entirely new, having nothing to do with a Bloodborne sequel.
This seems to fall in line with talk that Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki had moved on from the Souls series to work on a new IP, of which development had already begun. However, it may not be Miyazaki’s game that comes out in 2017, especially if the studio is working on multiple projects at the same time.
What is clear is that From Software is remaining in partnership with Sony through Studio Japan, and it appears that whatever game comes next from the studio is likely to be a PlayStation exclusive just asBloodborne was.
During the same interview, SCE Worldwide Studio President Shuhei Yoshida said that, although 2016 felt like the year of PlayStation hardware (with the release of PlayStation VR, PS4 Slim, and the PS4 Pro), he hopes that 2017 is the year for “amazing software” from Sony. It’s too early to tell just yet, but it sounds like whatever From Software is working on could play into that plan for 2017.
For those who might be familiar with the studio or its history, From Software developed bothDemon’s Souls and the Dark Souls series of games, which have become extremely popular with gamers seeking a challenge. Bloodborne, which changed the gameplay of those games, was a big win for Sony to get as an exclusive. In fact, here at Game Rant, we consider Bloodborne to be one of the must-own PS4 experiences for those who have the console.
Bloodborne is available now for PS4.
